Hummmm, so I'm thinking it might be a little like Sanctuary. But not nearly as manly and more outrageous, I assume.

Original post by KingofAllCosmos Hummmm, so I'm thinking it might be a little like Sanctuary. But not nearly as manly and more outrageous, I assume. Does Sanctuary have 10 page chapter rants on the needless spending of the highway commission in Japan? If so then yes, totally like Sanctuary. :D I enjoyed Akumetsu in the end. It had enough of a gimmick to want me to keep reading to figure out what exactly was going on. Though there were boring parts that almost made me want to drop it, the thought of "how the fuck does this even work" kept me reading until you find out. And once you find out I marathoned to the conclusion. You could honestly probably call it gimmicky, but again, I enjoyed it.

I feel like spending ten pages on a rant about any subject matter might not be the best use of this particular medium. But I guess I'll read and find out. On another note, Tom, you should try reading Sanctuary. One word: classic.

In honor of my many, many hours spent on OM I think I'm going to re-read the entire Sannoh match from Slam Dunk today. It'll officially be the last thing I read on the site.

Aww, I'm sorry I spoiled. I wouldn't have if I actually thought people were going to make serious headway into it. ...After reading the Sannoh match again, I've concluded that it STILL ended too early. Inoue COMPLETELY sets up the story for them to face Aiwa, then rematch Kainan, and then face Meihou in the final where Shohoku has to take down the final boss of the series, Horishige. I really don't understand why they would hype the Aiwa and Meihou teams in the buildup leading up to the Sannoh match and then just end the series abruptly. Le sigh....

Haha, well it can't be avoided. The reader needs to believe there's SOMETHING to aim for after the Sannoh match, even if Inoue ended it prematurely. By introducing these stronger teams, Inoue sets up a story that happens AFTER the manga ends, perhaps when Sakuragi has completed his rehabilitation and makes his comeback. Even afterward, there's still much to be accomplished and still much more room to grow. It adds a sense of realism, don't you think? In addition to Slam Dunk, I'm tackling Inoue's REAL and Vagabond. Just for the heck of it.

Despite the sense of realism, I'm still frustrated, because Horishige vs. Sakuragi would have been THE final boss of the series, and Shohoku really, REALLY deserved a rematch against Kainan (which allegedly finishes second to Meihou in the tournament). Real and Vagabond are both good. Vagabond scans are pretty easy to find, and Real scans aren't. I'm actually having trouble finding Real volumes in manga shops, even. Might have to resort to the internet.

Hum, really? I found nine volumes of it without any real effort. Maybe now that OneManga's shut down, it's time to get a MangaTraders account? If you don't mind downloading manga, that is. I'm always kinda surprised by how few people actually use this site. But that feeling of frustration--isn't it great? I always marvel at writers who can evoke such strong emotion and sympathy from their readers. Haha, but maybe I'm just a masochist.
