Do we have any other EarthBound fans around here? EarthBound is an incredibly fun SNES RPG, but instead of being set in a fantasy world with knights and stuff, it is set in a modern day America-like place. It has a lot of humor and is in general a fun, lighthearted game. It has a sequel, Mother 3, which was fan translated and you can find the translation here. EarthBound has a dedicated fan following over at Starmen.net. They've produced such wonderful gems such as an extensive collection of remixes and silly videos.

I've beaten all three Mother/EarthBound games. Mother 1 is pretty bad, but EarthBound and Mother 3 are really fun RPGs and true originals. Fun fact: the Pokemon head honcho was on the team that did Mother and EarthBound. That's why there are some basic design similarities between the two series.

I actually never made it out of the first town in Mother. It was really hard and I got used to the gameplay improvements in EB. I might go back to it one day. The vocal OST is still one of my favorite soundtracks. Songs like Pollyanna, Being Friends, and Paradise line are so uplifting. Pollyana reminds me a lot of Akari from Aria. I heard from the Fangamer folks that they're going to be running a Mother 3 fanfest in the next couple weeks. Mother 3 had some of the most touching scenes of any video game. I admit to tearing up with Mother 3 as I would any Key story.

Mother 3 shocked me with its maturity AND its weirdness. Its visuals are so bold and cartoony, but it deals with some really heavy shit, especially when you get to the final few pins. And all this when you have things like dancing monkeys as major plot points. And trust me, for awhile Mother behaves like a Dragon Quest clone. I could handle that. Then it gets a little hard midway through. Then at Mt. Itoi it becomes so ball-bustingly hard that using savestates is nothing to be ashamed of. But hey, I can't get mad at Mother 1 because without Mother One Piece would have no Franky.

Strangely enough even though I'm a Nintendo fan, the SNES is the console I missed. I only played my friend's games so I never did play Earthbound.

If I was assigned to select a few games that defined my childhood, Earthbound would certainly top that list. It was a definite curveball of an RPG that had the misfortune of being released when the west was not very receptive of that particular genre. The odd ad campaign didn't help matters as well.

I never really understood why they did the this game stinks advertising campaign for EB. It made no sense. The Japanese ads for EB were kind of weird too: (1)(2)(3)I guess they were going for "This is a game that appeals to everyone." Original post by 本屋!! Strangely enough even though I'm a Nintendo fan, the SNES is the console I missed. I only played my friend's games so I never did play Earthbound. I can show you EB if you want. It's lots of fun so definitely I would recommend you check it out. Incoming random EB videos: And here are some funny EB related videos by xfisjmg1: Hint Man: In EB, there's a guy that gives you hints if you get stuck. Far Out: The New Age Retro Hippie, my favorite enemy in EB. A wonderful, cute, charming video Mother 2 Animation. Danger! This video has tons of spoilers for Mother 3 It's a touching video about the Masked Man and Little Miss Marshmallow from Mother 3 based on the Romeo and Cinderella Miku video. - 【MOTHER3(Earthbound3)】ロミオとシンデレラ【手描き】

Original post by Funky Kong Mother 3 shocked me with its maturity AND its weirdness. Its visuals are so bold and cartoony, but it deals with some really heavy shit, especially when you get to the final few pins. The game wasn't particularly kind to the player in the beginning (Chapter 1) as well, especially if you happened to name the characters after yourself and family members. Despite all of this, I have always felt that Earthbound affected me moreso than its successor. It may be some latent form of nostalgia, but if I actually had to identify some cause, I would state that it was the endgame that makes me play the game through repeatedly. Imagine if you will... It's that late time of night during the summer, and the only light in the house is the flicker of your cheap 80's Magnavox. The game has officially turned dark, what with the whole matter of becoming robotic and trekking through the Cave of the Past and it's eerie, cacophonous tones. You've finally made it to the last chamber, and begin having this epic battle to determine the future of all humanity ( "Pokey Means Business" wins hard, btw). Ideally, you're doing alright for yourself, only for Pokey to chime in with some dialogue after you defeat him. The Devil's Machine is turned off, playtime ends, and the shit hits the fan. On a brighter note, the way in which the player triumphs in this battle is extremely satisfying.

The Metroid's gun thing? I believe that it is some sort of obscure and silly trolling technique commonly found on the chans and Yahoo Answers, in which a completely wrong statement or question is put forth. The material is usually very well known either in popular culture or material familiar to chan-tards, hence heightening the hilarity. i.e. I think Mewtwo's a pretty cool guy. Eh blows up Cinnabar Island and doesn't afraid of anything.

Original post by bwbScram On a brighter note, the way in which the player triumphs in this battle is extremely satisfying. Man, I didn't know about how to win the final battle at all. I played that shit for like two hours and then gave up. I tried again the next day, played for another 2ish hours, then before giving I called my friend Jay (who had lent me the game) and asked if there were shenanigans. This is well before my days of internet addiction. After a bit, the game was won and all was good.

The Mother 3 Fanfest has started! Come join us for a month's worth of livestreams every night (except Mondays) at 9:00PM EST as we play through a little bit each day. Anyone else joining? It started yesterday so there's plenty of time to catch up.

I just started watching a few minutes ago, so naturally, the game had progressed to this point. Bronson's bit combined with Flint going ape-shit amidst the context of it all makes me chuckle awkwardly. Also, I understand that a suspension of one's logic is almost demanded with regards to this series, but seriously, how in the hell did Claus place a nail file into a fucking apple? Keep in mind that the current setting is Tazmilly Village, where technology is scarce or non-existent.

Bronson is a jerk. :/ CH1 has some of the most tear jerking moments of any game I've ever gone through. It does a good job of motivating the rest of the game. (Let's not post spoilers since some people may not have played Mother 3). I'm up to Osohe castle. I think this is the Peaceful Rest Valley of Mother 3. I had so much trouble going through it last time that I'm taking two days to go through the castle. Solo Duster is tough. I think Osohe castle and the volcano are the only parts that really gave me trouble. Can't wait to get Kumatora. @Honya - Did you want to meet sometime before school starts to play iM@S-Bound? Don't have my SNES with me so we can play on emulator I guess.
